Friendships are so special.
But real friendships take time to build. They take time to grow.
Lets take time to explore frendships shall we?
Children make friends so quickly! Then as we grow older, it is not as simple as
getting out the toys, or playing hide-n-seek is it? No, we need to put some time
into friendships. The Bible says: "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly.."
So, we see that to have a friend we must "be" a friend. What does friendly mean?
In Websters 1828 we find it says, "Having the temper and disposition of a friend; kind;
favorable; disposed to promote the good of another." True Friendship then differs from benevolence,
which is good will to mankind in general, and from that love which springs from animal appetite.
True friendship is a noble and virtuous attachment, springing from a pure source, a respect for
worth or amiable qualities.
Proverbs 18:24 "A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother."
John 15:13" Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
Be concerned with
being a friend, not in having a friend. Many would love to have a true
friend, but few are interested in being a true friend. Now it would be an
unholy motive for one to be a friend in order that he might have a friend.
Nevertheless it is true that to have friends one must be a friend. It is far
more noble, however, for one to satisfy himself with being a friend.
It is better to be a friend than to have a friend. By being a friend one
develops character and integrity. Do not spend your life trying to
cultivate one's friendship, but rather try to cultivate your own friendship
to others. "Being loved is life's second greatest blessing; loving is the
greatest." Another way to say that is having a friend is a great blessing,
but being a friend is a greater blessing.
One of the best places
to start in being a friend is living for others. General Booth, the founder
of the Salvation Army, sent a telegram to a Army Convention durinig his
last days because his health would not permit him to attend personally.
The telegram simply said, "Others," and was signed, General Booth.
"Lord, help me live from day to day
In such a self-forgetful way,
That even when I kneel to pray
My prayer shall be for others.
"Others, Lord, yes others,
Let this my motto be,
Help me to live for others,
That I may live like Thee.
Help me in all the work I do
To ever be sincere and true,
And know that all I'd do for You
Must needs be done for others.
"Let 'Self' be crucified and slain
And buried deep; and all in vain
May eforts be to rise again
Unless to live for others.
And when my work on earth is done,
And my new work in Heaven's begun,
May I forget the crown I've won,
While thinking still of others."
Flowers smell soooo good! And so does a special treat made with love!
Just past this gate is my home, and to the back of the house is my
Without the Lord
Without the Lord, I walk an empty pathway,
Without the Lord, my eyes are dim with tears.
I'm as a sheepfold without a guiding shepherd
Just as a baby without a mother dear.
Without Thee Lord, my heart is sad and lonely
Without thee Lord, the bells of love can't ring,
I'm as a morning without refreshing dewdrops.
Just as a fountain without a flowing spring.
Without Thee Lord, my nights are long and starless;
Without Thee Lord, the heavens seem so far
I'm as a candle, without a glowing flame
Just as the twilight without an evening star.
Without Thee Lord, my life would be as nothing
Without Thee Lord, I'm as an empty sea,
I'm as a sailor without a guiding compass,
Just as a song bird without a melody.
Maybe you can think of someone that is a special friend? Perhaps you would like
to pass along a little something that says just that. Try some of these;
