And now I exhort you to be of Good Cheer...Acts 27:22a-

Today I want to talk about being a "Cheerleader." When I was a child I loved to be a Cheerleader! It was so exciting! It was a thrill to be able to cheer the team on to Victory!!! A cheerleader has an important job. That job is to encourage the team. Without encouragement many teams do not succeed. The definition for Encouragement is:
1.) to give courage or confidence to-
2.) urge -
3.) promote

How can anyone ever win if they never have encouragement? Well, I would say that there probably are not many who do. That is why I want to take my job as a Cheerleader very seriously.

Of course the looks of my team have changed but I still love the job of "Cheerleader."

I can tell you the Quarterback of "My team" is the greatest! He might not always think that he is or that he is even doing a great job. So it is my job to let him know that he is the greatest and that there is nothing he can't do when God is on his side. I can cheer him on and let him know that Phil. 4:13 is true, "I can do all things through Christ which strengthenth me". I can let him know that not everyone is quarterback material, and that he must be pretty special to have been picked to be the quarterback of our team.

How many of you know of any team that can win, when the quarterback is knocked down or put down all of the time? Well, I don't know of many.

So, it is my job to make sure that the Quarterback is always encouraged. That he can always see me on the sideline cheering him and not be guilty of putting him down. It is not my job to tell him what he should do, just cheer for what he is doing!

The Quarterback of my "Team" is my husband. In Prov. 31:11a. it says: The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her.. So I want him as my quarterback to know that I'm doing my part so that he can successfully do his part. I want him to be well known as a Great Child of God, a Great Soul Winner, a Great Husband, a Great Daddy, and and so on. In Prov. 31:23 it says: "Her husband is known in the gates, when he sitteth among the elders of the land". I want to help him have this!

Well on to the next part of my team these would be the "players." Their job is also important. They have to help the captain and protect him. It's a tough job they have and if they never hear my "cheering" they may give up and think no one cares. I want them to know that I depend on them to do their best and I want them to know that I'll always be there for them cheering them on. I want them to be proud that I'm the one on the side lines encouraging them on to Victory!

Phil. 2:3 says: "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves". So often, I'm guilty of putting down those on my team and not building them up. How will they ever have success if I continue to do this. I have purposed in my heart to change the way I treat my team-my family. My children are the players on my team, and I want them to strive for the best, and I want to help them get it!!!!! So I must live by Phil. 2:3-4: "Let nothing be done through strife of vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves. Look not every man on his own things, but also on the things of others". I must learn to put others first, so that I can be happy and know I've done my part and so that they can be happy!

Now not every ones team is the same, but your job as a "cheerleader" is just as important as mine. There is always someone in our lives that needs some "cheering." Our families are the best place to start Cheering! It's never too late to start being a cheerleader, even if you think you can't do it. I learned a great Saying from Jo Jo Moffit and it says "Fake it till you Make it." So just act like you can do it and Practice!!! And eventually you will Make it!!!!

Cheerleaders use a lot of words to cheer-encourage people. Words are so important! They can either build up or tear down, and we have to practice using the ones that will build up. It doesn't come easy to everyone, so we have to practice! Practice does make perfect! Whether it is in a classroom, your home, the workplace and so on, a kind word works wonders!! We Need Encouragement in each stage of our life!!! Remember we are just works in process and that God is not finished with us yet! What will we do to help this process? Will we build up or tear down?

Using kind words will help to build people up! But praying for these same people will help them go the whole way! Take your friends and your family to the Lord and pray for the area where they need most encouraging and God will let you know how to best Encourage (Cheer) them on! We all NEED to be a cheerleader! I need your prayers, you need mine! I want to be your cheerleader, and I want you to be mine. Let's change the word we have been using here from Cheerleader to Encourager, I want to ENCOURAGE you to be an Encourager, that means give those around you courage and to urge them on or promote them on to GREATNESS!!!!
